Kaya Turski Wins Kristi Leskinen’s Homecoming Invitational
Canadian Kaya Turski has continued to put the hammer down on the Women’s Slopestyle scene by winning her 2nd consecutive event. After taking gold at X Games, skipping the Aspen/Snowmass Open, and winning Homecoming, at Seven Springs, PA, Turski is well in the lead in the AFP rankings. In 2nd, is Ashley Battersby, who took an 8th place finish at Homecoming, but has strung together her 4th at X Games and 1st at the Aspen/Snowmass Open to narrowly nudge out Keri Herman. Herman, who took 2nd at X Games and 3rd at Homecoming sits comfortably in 3rd place on the AFP rankings.
Dropping a spot, from 3rd to 4th on the AFP list, Megan Olenick is still in the hunt, just of the AFP podium, following a nice 2nd place at the Aspen/Snowmass Open, but a disappointing 6th at Homecoming. Newcomer Devin Logan has been burning a hole in the scene with a slew of finishes, including a 2nd place at Leskinen’s event. Devin, who didn’t even register on the AFP list before X Games, has podium-ed at ASO (pipe and slope) and Homecoming, putting her in 5th and ready to strike for the podium. Grete Eliassen, who took 3rd at X Games, has dropped down to the 6th spot, since she hasn’t competed since X.
Kristi, who lent her namesake to the event, sits in 7th, while fellow female pioneer Sarah Burke holds down the 8th spot. Dania Assaly and Taylor Lundquist round out the top 10, sitting in 9th and 10th respectively. While there are fewer events for women this year, that means every event counts in the hunt for AFP glory. Next up, The European Freeski Open and European X Games. Two big events, with big names and big points on the line. Stay tuned.
