Gus Kenworthy Wins Aspen/Snowmass Open Slopestyle

Keeping the dream alive, Gus Kenworthy continues to steam roll the competition at the Aspen/Snowmass Open, this time on the slopestyle course. Gus, who used to occupy the 27th spot on the AFP slopestyle list has jumped to 12th, between Alexis Godbout and Alex Schlopy. Big moves for Kenny G in Aspen this weekend.

As with pipe, there weren’t tons of big names at the event, in fact, I think there were 0 X games slopestyle competitors in contention this weekend, but nonetheless, the event went off. It saw Erik Hughes and Aidan Sheehan jump to 28th and 29th respectively. Kim Boberg started to make a name for himself. Tim McChesney now takes up that 35th spot, looking to improve. but the core top 10 AFp list hold true still, with Kenworthy knocking at its door.

On the women’s side of things, Ashley Battersby took the win and with it, bumped up to 2nd on the AFP rankings behind Kaya Turski. Meg Olenick who took 2nd, now sits in 3rd place, after this weekend. Newcomers Devin Logan (8th), and Annalise Manley (15th) atart to get their AFP points up as well.

With European Open, be sure to see some Euros and smaller names move up the AFP list, especially on the women’s side. It’s always a mystery which big names show up there, so it’s still anyone’s game.
