Tom Wallisch Wins Winter Dew Tour Slopestyle at Snowbasin
On a distinctly different course from the Breckenridge stop, the Snowbasin Slopestyle showcased the best slopestyle skiing to date. When the dust settled, it was none other than local Utah skier Tom Wallisch who sat above the rest. Following him on the podium was Andreas Håtveit and Bobby Brown. In fact, the top four from Breckenridge were the same top four here, just in a shuffled order.
Wallisch, with his 1st place in Utah and 2nd place in Colorado puts him atop the AFP slopestyle rankings. Youngster Bobby Brown takes his 3rd and 4th Dew finishes plus some results from New Zealand to a 2nd place rank, with two-podium Dew finisher Andreas Håtveit in 3rd in the AFP standings. Fourth for AFP goes to newcomer Elias Ambuhl who has been consistently putting together results, including a 7th place in Snowbasin.
Sammy Carlson, who narrowly missed the podium this go-’round sits comfortably in 6th place. Definitely look for Pasty C to try and bump his rank at next week’s X Games. Jossi Wells, who is 1st in pipe, sneaks into the 5th place spot with a 5th place finish at Snowbasin. Jossi looks to be the biggest double-threat on the tour, and he is proving his dominance, yet again.
Relative comp finalist newcomer, Ian Cosco, has broken in to the AFP top 10 sitting at 9th, right behind currently scratched Henrik Harlaut, who should be ready for X Games next week. Phil Casabon and Alexis Godbout have improved to 10th and 14th overall, while Jacob Wester, who missed the finals cut this time sits in 7th overall. Defending X Games gold medalist TJ Schiller took a big crash his first run, but overcame to stomp a safe 2nd run and take 10th place in Utah, improving his AFP rank to 18th. Newcomer McRae Williams and veteran Charles Gagnier carried the rear of the finalists in Utah and sit 15th and 20th on the AFP standings.
As with halfpipe and women’s events, X Games is next on the schedule. Big points and bragging rights are up for grabs all next week, so look to see who improves and who doesn’t.
