Jossi Wells Wins Winter Dew Tour Halfpipe at Snowbasin

As the 2nd Winter Dew Tour has finished, the AFP rankings have had some shake ups in the rankings. With no open qualifier at the Snowbasin stop, the fat had been trimmed off the list of names and only 19 men were eligible to earn points in this pipe event.

Saturday’s big winner was Jossi Wells, who was the 2nd place finisher at Breckenridge. And with his win, Dew trophy and cash prize, the young Kiwi also grabs the top spot in the AFP pipe rankings from David Wise, who is currently out with a knee injury. Second place at Snowbasin was none other than the infamous Simon Dumont, narrowly behind Jossi. After a disappointing 6th place for Simon in Breck, he was out for blood. Big amplitude and bigger tricks landed him on the podium this time around. Simon has made a huge jump from 21st to 5th place in the AFP standings, a nice place to be going into X Games. Third place went to Peter Olenick who has narrowly (and not so narrowly) been missing the podium for a couple years, good to see him back in action. The finish took Pete from the dregs of the rankings to a respectable 12th place.

Fourth, 5th and 6th places went to Tucker Perkins, Xavier Bertoni and AJ Kemppainen, moving them to 7th, 3rd and 9th, respectively,  in the AFP pipe standings. Xavier, last year’s X Games pipe gold medalist, took a big spill in practice, forcing him to hold it back in his runs, yet his 5th place was good enough to bump him into the top three AFP spots. Teammates Mike Riddle and Justin Dorey were unable to put together two clean runs, giving them a handful of AFP points, placing them in 4th ad 18th, respectively.

Other notables in include Matt Duhamel in the finals who now ranks 6th, Da Marion who ranks 13th, and Colby West who has moved to 21st. The next event for pipe is the X Games, so watch for big names and big points and big moves in the rankings after next week.
